Is It In The Genes?
From time to time, I question whether certain genes are hereditary (yes, for anyone who is looking for something to do on a Monday morning, that's 4 different links).

This morning I'm a little worried about insanity. I mean, every mother I know fears that she has passed a little of her own craziness down to her child. I personally suspect (from my own genetic make-up) that insanity comes through the father's line, but I had to wonder at breakfast when Jake said, "Sometimes I hear voices in my head when I close my eyes. And last night I heard footsteps."

Have I ever told any of you about Dracula, who used to live outside my window in our home in Gainesville, GA? Seriously, he was there.

Perhaps he's now walking in Jake's head too...

Incidentally, when I reassured Jake that there's no way there'd be footsteps in our house after we were all in bed (I didn't go into the whole Dracula issue), he asked how we could lock the windows. I showed him the locks on our windows, then explained (after he asked) that by the time a "bad guy" (who wouldn't come to our neighborhood, as I explained) broke our windows to get in, we'd have time to call the police who would come get the bad guy.

Jake has been saying he wants to be a "policeman who rides a bike" since Safety Town a few weeks ago, but I think the danger of police work became clear to him when we talked about the whole window-breaking-criminal-captured-by-policeman conversation. He sat and thought a minute, then said, "You know, I think I'd rather be a photographer than a policeman."

Whew.

Smart kid! Photographer is a much better career choice since it doesn't leave Mom sitting at home worrying nearly as bad.
I was never afraid of "monsters" or anything like that growing up. Instead it was the fear of someone breaking into our house that kept me up at night. So I can sympathize. Thats still a big fear of mine and I'm almost 30, LOL.

Brooke tells me all the time she talks to herself in her mind. LOL! I love hearing Jake's thoughts on life.
