This is the last day of the third week this summer that two of Jake's friends have come over in the afternoons while their mom works. Yesterday, Jake and one of the friends (the other six-year-old) practiced their fishing whoppers. Except not about fish.
Wesley: I can talk to snakes, too, you know. [We were watching Harry Potter.]
Jake: Yeah, well, my dad can do real magic.
Both boys stare at each other, not sure if the other is lying. They nod and look back to the movie: if I'm telling the truth, he must be, too.
