Non-TV Entertainment
Last night Ike declared a moratorium on television-watching for today (although Jake now claims it was his idea). At first, I was irritated that Ike wouldn't let my favorite babysitters come over (you know, Curious George followed by Berenstein Bears followed again by Curious George, then a series of Disney shows interrupted only by Barney at 11:00), but I have to say it's been great.

After her initial shock that her morning request, "Milk! Barney!" was met with only milk, and after Jake's almost-tears and later statement, "I've done so much today. I think I need just one show," they did something extraordinary: spontaneous playtime.

When Annie woke up from her nap this afternoon, Jake and I went in together to get her. (Ever notice that "Together is "to get her" all squished? Weird...) She saw Jake, laughed, grabbed a stuffed animal and threw it at him. Thus began a ten-minute battle, crib to floor, with stuffed animals flying back and forth. Lots of giggling.

Eventually Jake asked to get in the crib with Annie, so they played another 15 minutes in the crib. Amazing.

I'm not saying the t.v. won't be back on tomorrow. I'm not saying I think it's bad to have Barney songs stuck in my head 24/7. Oh, wait, maybe that is bad. But I like this "we play together because we have to" thing.

And of course, I captured it on camera.

Sometimes we have to have no TV time too, just to be able to have a conversation with Emilie that she's actually a part of. That seems to always end up being some great sister bonding time for my girls even though they have a hard time admitting they enjoy it. Oh, btw, have I ever told you that Annie's little smile is absolutely precious!

I think we should do that like once a month. Kind of like a TV fasting thing! LOL
I love the pictures and Annie looks like you clone! LOL
