Christmas exactly how it should be (but without pictures)
Merry belated Christmas! I didn't get on the computer once yesterday (although I did read over Ike's shoulder from time to time), so I didn't write a Christmas message here. But just like many of you are probably getting our Christmas card late...well, this is late too.

I recently asked friends through Facebook (which Caitlin insists I'm too old for, and she's right) about their favorite Christmas memory. I have to say that I've been so blessed in my life that I've never had a bad Christmas memory at all. My parents, grandparents, and now my own family have always made Christmas special. But I think Christmas got even better for me after our kids were born. Our first Christmas with Jake in 2001 was a bit of a blur...and of course in 2005 Annie was only five days old at Christmas... But even those semi-sleep-deprived Christmases were wonderful.

Yesterday beat them all. We're probably nearing the end of the Santa years with Jake, so yesterday was very special. We have a 6-year-old who is beginning to wonder, but determined that his friends who don't believe in Santa are wrong (it helped that Santa thought to leave behind a sooty footprint and a part of his coat that tore on our fireplace). And we have a 2-year-old who overnight became a huge fan of that (formerly scary) man in red. Yesterday was AWESOME. There's no better word for it. The kids played well with their new toys. Jake got two huge Transformers and 5 new Spiderman action figures. Annie got a baby doll from Santa, complete with bathtub, diaper bag, bottle, etc. Ike got her a train that's perfect for her age, made of foam and indestructible. Annie and I spent the day feeding the baby and giving it a bath (over and over) and stealing Jake's action figures to make them ride on the train. Ike and Jake played with Ultimate Bumblebee (which you have to see to believe) and made slime from the Mad Science kit my parents got Jake. And Ike and I got to read and relax throughout the day.

I have two new best friends: a programmable coffee pot (Thanks Dad & Mom!) and a Scooba (THANKS IKE!).

Now my coffee pot makes my coffee and my "mop" mops on its own. If I could just find something to clean the tub and fold the laundry, I'd be completely set.

I hope that you and your family had a wonderful day too. I'm off to get another cup of coffee from one of my new best friends...
