Second Grade: No Sweat
Well, we've made it through the first week of second grade. Right now Jake is in the midst of his first three-day weekend, so he has two friends over. It feels a lot like summer still, but at least we know what to expect when school resumes on Tuesday.

Jake's first day was last Tuesday, the 26th. I was more than a little nervous about Jake riding the bus and changing buses at the magnet hub, so I overcompensated. I put an id tag on his shirt, in his pocket and in his book bag...You know, in case he forgot his name, his school, his blood type (just kidding), etc. It has been suggested that perhaps I should have tattooed it on his forehead...but I think that would be overdoing it...

We all trekked across the street to Jake's bus stop to wait for the bus together in the rain. Jake was ecstatic, knowing that he'd have several friends on the second bus (from the hub to school). I was...nervous. Have I mentioned that I was nervous? The bus driver was very nice and asked Jake to sit at the front of the bus when she found out he was a first-time rider. It was all very civil and mature...

...and I burst into tears as soon as she drove away. :(

Jake came home on the bus--still ecstatic. He loved second grade, said it was the best year yet (which he's said every year so far). He gets to be a "buddy" to a first grader and has the same teacher as last year.

Annie is now signed up for a gymnastics class for the school year--once a week on Tuesdays. We went to the first class last week (on Jake's first day), where the teachers pointed out again and again what a "natural climber" Annie is. Well, duh. She's also a natural flipper and a natural "I will jump where I want to and not where you tell me to on the trampoline"-er.

I took one picture before we walked out to the bus on Tuesday. The rain kept us from taking any outside. Well, that and how embarrassed Jake would have been. I've already been told, "Don't write notes on my napkin this year, Mom. I mean, you can if you really want to, but it was kinda embarrassing last year."

I'm embarrassing now and he's only seven??? God help me when he's in middle school...

(See the tag on his shirt? And yes, those are binoculars Annie's wearing. I don't know why.)
