So why is it that nothing gets done??
Well, obviously I haven't been spending much time on the computer. For those of you who've sent me e-mails, you know I've been slow to respond (or I haven't yet responded--sorry!), and for the one or maybe two people who check this regularly, you've maybe noticed I haven't been writing.

I wish I could say it's because I've been so organized and gotten so much together that I just haven't had time to sit in front of the computer. But really, the house is still a mess (albeit a small mess) and the laundry is not caught up. Ike gave me this pitying look last night as I trudged off to bed, leaving crap behind to work on today...

And so I don't get it. What AM I doing all day? Not sleeping enough, not cleaning enough, not working out enough... Not watching tv (unless having Barney in the background counts). Hm. I have this new business idea (yes, another one), and it involves these issues. More on that another time. Really, you're here to read something about the kids.

So here you go.

First, an update on Annie: She can now say, "I love you," and "Outside," and "Satya." Satya is a friend of Jake's who will be moving soon to another state. Of course, Annie has picked this time to fall in love with him. If she hears his name she repeats it ten times. If she sees any of Jake's friends, she does a little dance and says, "Atya!" (no "s" yet, I guess.) Everyone who isn't Jake but is Jake's age is "Atya!" Hmmm...perhaps there's a future for those two... :)

She has also discovered her belly button. Really, she'll show you next time she sees you. She loves that belly button and now that it's warmer (except today), she's not wearing onesies under her clothes. So she's more than happy to lift her shirt to show off her, "Bubba." This morning I walked into her room to find her poking her pink teddy bear in the stomach and saying, "Beaw bubba," which I think means, "Bear's Belly Button."

Now to Jake. First I should mention, to anyone who isn't familiar with the Montessori Method in schools, that PEACE is a big deal in a Montessori school. Kids who are arguing are sent to a "Peace Area" or "Peace Corner" to work out their differences. Jake brings home "Peace doves" that he has traced. We celebrate "Peace Day" (or did last year, anyway). There are pictures of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mother Teresa in Jake's classroom. Yay for peace.

So last night Jake and I were looking through some of the work he brought home from the past couple of months. He told me about each paper as we got to it in his folder. "This is counting by 4's, This is a story, This is what I did in art class..." We got to a tracing of a dove. "This is the peace dove." And then the next page, covered with letters and some sort of drawing. "Oh, this is the machine Brooks and I designed to kill The Cheetah Girls**."

Um...yeah, "peace." It's not really a part of a five-year-old boy's vocabulary.

Also, this morning on our way to school, Jake was talking about his former girlfriend. That's right, apparently it's over for sure. She's spending all of her time with Jalen and they're whispering secrets to each other, so Jake is assuming she must be Jalen's girlfriend now. I asked him if he was sad about that and he said, "Well, a little. But the important thing is that I'm still a part of the Sonic Team. We don't like girls."

Oh well. Short-lived relationship. But at least he has his "boyz."

And speaking of boyz...I have a new member of my exclusive List of Five. Is it a sign that I'm getting old that my list no longer includes only older men? A couple of people have asked who Ike and I have on our Lists. That might be a blog at some point.

One more thing: Jake is now enrolled in "belt karate" classes. He's digging it and is really impressive with his moves. Not that I'm at all biased, but I think this self-discipline will go far in his future career as an Olympic fencer.

**By "Cheetah Girls," Jake is not referring to the actual band from the Disney Channel. The kids in his class have divided themselves into "teams" at recess (on their own, not something I think the teachers know about). Jake is on the Sonic Team, the Power Rangers Team, and The Ben 10 Team. The Cheetah Girls is a team the cool girls have formed to combat all the boy teams...

This new person on your list makes me sad. He owns a K-Fed album...

The good thing is I have no idea who K-Fed is. So, not sad. :)

Well I came here to say that I can totally agree with the addition of your new person on the list, but after reading Caitin's comment I lost a whole lot of respect for him, LOL. He is HOT HOT though :)

As for the kids.....don't you just love all that elementary school drama! I just find it totally humerous that all this goes on at school amongst kids this age. But the belly button thing just made me REALLY excited to see Annie when we come up there. She's just sounding way too big to me :)

I love Blake, too. Disappointed about the K-Fed thing, but can get over it b/c Blake is so dang talented and cute.

Excellent! I have learned much from 8 and 9 year olds. I have learned that their parents think I have the patience of a saint. I don't think that's true though. I doubt any saints ever thought so much about killing 8 and 9 year olds with a sword. Ever.

The ones who have started younger in martial arts are better disciplined, and ultimately make better fencers.
